Chicago's Cornmeal is a progressive bluegrass band steeped in the tradition of musical acts such as Old and in the Way, John Hartford and New Grass Revival. The band started as a side project seven years ago and has since grown into a Windy City institution. With dynamic songwriting, solid musicianship (banjo, guitar, string bass, drums, fiddle) and three albums to their credit, Cornmeal has emerged from their Midwest home turf to serve tasty music to a growing national fanbase, even winning last year's New Groove Jammy award. Cornmeal has consistently evolved its sound and stage performance, using bluegrass as a springboard for long improvisational work and songs ranging from country, rock and blues to jazz, funk and disco.
